🌊 40.631 VOLTE GRAZIE!
Il 4 marzo la Capitaneria di porto ci ha recapitato 7 multe da 2.080 euro l’una. Due settimane dopo ci è arrivata la notizia di altre 4 sanzioni di pari entità, cui si sommavano 6.000 euro di spese legali. In un anno in cui le normali iniziative di autofinanziamento del Comitato sono state messe da parte a causa della pandemia, una maxi-sanzione di 28.000 euro ci ha messi in ginocchio. Abbiamo provato a fare un azzardo, abbiamo provato a chiedere a chi in questi anni ha camminato e navigato al nostro fianco di sostenerci. Ci aspettavamo la solidarietà: non ci aspettavamo la magia.
In meno di 30 giorni le donazioni che sono arrivate al Comitato No Grandi Navi hanno raggiunto l’incredibile ammontare di 40.631 euro. Che dire: qualsiasi grazie non descrive la gioia e l’emozione per questa marea di solidarietà. In un momento affatto scontato aver potuto sentire la vicinanza di migliaia di persone è il regalo più bello in 9 anni di battaglie. Vedere migliaia di “piccole” donazioni ci ha fattə sentire al sicuro come durante le nostre manifestazioni, quando in centinaia, sui nostri barchini, armatə solo dei nostri corpi, delle nostre voci, dell’amore per questa laguna, affrontiamo quegli ecomostri galleggianti. A ciascuna di queste migliaia di persone, a questo straordinario e generoso popolo no navi va tutta la nostra gratitudine per averci sostenutə in uno dei momenti più bui. La nostra infinita gratitudine va anche ad alcunə compagnə di viaggio che, nonostante le difficoltà e la fortissima repressione, non hanno esitato un attimo a sostenerci e hanno dimostrato che combattere per il proprio territorio è combattere per la salvaguardia di tutti i territori. La vittoria, per noi, non è solamente l’aver raccolto ben oltre la cifra necessaria per pagare la maxi-sanzione, ma è l’aver toccato con mano che non siamo solə, che la battaglia per l’estromissione delle navi dalla laguna di Venezia è una battaglia che ovunque, in Italia e nel mondo, tocca le corde di chi non sarà mai dispostə a mettere il profitto davanti alla salute, al pianeta, alla bellezza. Questa vittoria giunge negli stessi giorni in cui il consiglio dei ministri firma per lo stop definitivo delle navi da crociera dal Canale della Giudecca e lancia un concorso di idee per un progetto definitivo che tenga la navigazione crocieristica fuori dalla laguna. È stata una settimana storica, insomma.
Oggi scadono i termini per l’ingiunzione di pagamento delle prime 7 sanzioni e noi siamo in attesa della sentenza del giudice di pace cui abbiamo fatto richiesta di sospensione dei termini di pagamento. Entro due settimane sapremo se dobbiamo versare tutta la cifra immediatamente o se possiamo congelare il pagamento e aspettare l’esito del ricorso nel merito delle irregolarità che ci vengono contestate.
La cifra che abbiamo raccolto ha superato l’ammontare delle sanzioni: per questo motivo, con l’eccedenza, abbiamo deciso di inaugurare una cassa per le spese legali del Comitato. La differenza andrà a costituire un fondo per la difesa legale degli attivisti e delle attiviste che stanno affrontando procedimenti giudiziari.
Nonostante quindi i tempi eccezionali in cui stiamo vivendo, il Comitato ce l’ha fatta e ha un’arma in più per continuare a battersi per la salvaguardia della laguna. Vorremmo ringraziare personalmente ciascunə di voi, far toccare con mano a ciascuno dei pesciolini che ha lottato con noi contro il pescecane la commozione di questo momento. Purtroppo sappiamo che non è possibile, ma vi promettiamo che la fiducia che avete riposto nella nostra battaglia comune non sarà mai tradita: una legge ha sancito che le navi non dovranno più attraversare Venezia, due leggi prevedono che non ci siano le condizioni per cui le crociere possano raggiungere Marghera. Ora, e sempre, la soluzione è “fuori le navi dalla laguna” e faremo tutto il possibile perché sia davvero così!

On March 4, the Port authority handed us seven fines of 2,080 euros each. Two weeks later we received other four penalties of the same amount, to which were added 6,000 euros for legal fees.
This maxi-sanction of 28,000 euros has brought us to our knees, considering that the Committee’s normal self-financing initiatives have been sidelined due to the pandemic. We had to take a chance and try to ask those who have walked and sailed alongside us over the years to support us. We expected solidarity: we didn’t expect magic.
In less than 30 days, the donations that came to the No grandi navi Committee reached the incredible amount of 40,631 euros. We are still speechless, as no words could ever describe well enough the joy and emotion for this tide of solidarity. In such a difficult and uncertain moment, to feel the closeness of thousands of people is definitely the best gift ever received in 9 years of battles. Seeing thousands of “small” donations made us feel as safe as during our demonstrations, when in hundreds, on our small boats, armed only with our bodies, our voices and the love for this lagoon, we faced those floating eco monsters. To each of these thousands of people, to this extraordinary and generous No Navi people, goes all our gratitude for having supported us in one of the darkest situations. Our infinite gratitude also goes to some traveling companion who, despite the difficulties and the very strong repression, did not hesitate to support us, by showing that fighting for one’s own territory actually means fighting for the protection of all territories. Victory to us means more than the successful crowdfunding: victory stands in the feeling and in the proof that we are not alone. This is a battle that everywhere, in Italy and in the world, touches the hearts of those who would never put profit before health, nor the planet, nor beauty. This victory comes together with the council of ministers’ signature to stop cruise ships from passing through the Giudecca Canal. This new decision launches a competition of ideas for a definitive project that keeps cruise navigation out of the lagoon. It has been an historic week, in short.
Today is the deadline for the payment order of the first seven fines. We are currently waiting for the judge’s ruling on our request to suspend this deadline for payment. In two weeks, we will know if we need to transfer the sum immediately or if we shall freeze the payment while we wait for the judgment’s result.
The amount reached with donations largely overcomes the total of fines: for this reason, we will keep what exceeds as our own treasury for activists’ legal defense.
Despite the exceptional times we are living, No grandi navi Committee made it and we now have more power to fight for the safety of our lagoon. We would like to thank each of you personally, to share our emotion with anyone of you little fishes who fought with us against the “big shark”.
All the trust and support that you put in this common struggle won’t be betrayed: a new law sets off the expulsion of big ships from Venice and more laws prove that there are no conditions for the temporary dock in Marghera.
Now and ever, the only acceptable solution is to keep big ships outside of the lagoon and to this purpose we will always commit!
